Election: APC declares Civil War on Akwa Ibom
The recent actions and utterances of the All Progressives Congress in Akwa Ibom State can be fittingly described as an outright declaration of a civil war on the government and people of Akwa Ibom State.
These developments have assumed an unprecedented dimension especially since the last National Assembly and President elections where the PDP clinched all National Assembly seats in Akwa Ibom State
The volume of boastful pronouncements of the much vaunted plot to capture Akwa Ibom by force; even if it means spilling human blood and destroying properties, reached a crescendo with the reckless utterances of Mr Adam Oshiomhole and some unfortunate remarks which are shockingly credited to Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, who a number of Nigerians had seen as a God-fearing man. While we discountenance the statements credited to the Pastor and Vice President, we are however embarrassed that Mr. Adams Oshiomhole matched his boasts with action by sending truck loads of Edo State-born thugs and hoodlums from Benin to Akwa Ibom State.
However, by divine intervention 11 of those trucks carrying 153 thugs were apprehended by security agencies and they have since made confessional statements alluding to the fact that they are APC youths from Edo State.
Recall that the APC in Akwa. Ibom has at various times spewed utterance and acted out scripts that point to their desire to disrupt elections in the state at all cost! These brazen acts of impunity have been roundly condemned by International Community, Observers, royal fathers and fathers of faith in the state
We hereby call on the President and Commander in Chief of the Nigerian Armed forces to direct the Inspector-General of Police to ensure that all arrested hoodlums are brought to book, while those still at large are apprehended and made to face the full weight of the law.
It is on record that, since 2015, when His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel became the Governor of Akwa Ibom, the State has witnessed unprecedented peace in all ramifications. This peace has been instrumental to the inflows of Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) which have provided jobs and created wealth for Akwa Ibom people.
We trust that security agencies will ensure that they fulfill their social contract with the people they swore to protect without fear or favour. No election is worth the lives or blood of any human being.
We also enjoin Akwa Ibom people not to bow to these brazen acts of harassments and intimidation as the darkest part of the night is usually the closest to dawn.
We urge every Akwa Ibom person to go out to their respective polling units on Saturday and cast their votes for Governor Udom Emmanuel and candidates of the PDP for the State Assembly seats, confident that no amount of intimidation can subvert our collective resolve to move to newer territories of possibilities and opportunities with Udom Emmanuel.
