Lagos 2019: Why Ambode is running from Pillar to Post
Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode is currently struggling to seal his second term bid with the All Progressive Congress (APC).
According to our finding, Ambode is more frequent in Abuja than Lagos trying to beg the National leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to save him from impending defeat at the party primaries.
An APC chieftain in Lagos who spoke with Nigeria Today on condition of anonymity revealed that Ambode is afraid of contesting in the primary election of APC due to his estranged relationship with some party stakeholders in Lagos. He described Ambode as a show boaster, a timid character who was running after media hype without fueling the party structure.
“He is not good at maintaining relationship, most of us who worked tiredly for our leader to endorse him for office have been neglected by his government.
“From the Mainland to the Island, there is no single party structure that he can boast of, because you can’t reap where you did not sow
“If a primary is conducted today and Asiwaju does not intervene, Ambode will not have up to 12 genuine votes.
He maintained that the only problem Tinubu has with Ambode was his failure to carry the party structure who brought him to power along in the development of Lagos State.
“Fashiola succeeded because he carried everyone along, even those who did not support him. He only failed when he wanted to install a successor, he didn’t inform any of us, even when Asiwaju asked him in our meeting whether he has anyone in mind he said no.
“Let me tell you what you don’t know about Asiwaju, he does not work on his own, he consult widely, he carries everyone along, do you know he calls me before taking any decision? (he laughs).
“A king does not rule alone, Apart the members of your cabinet, you have the party structure, any action Asiwaju will take today is based on the reflection of the party structure.
He noted that Ambode was the cause of his own misfortune, since he had the chance to build the party structure, engage them in the state development and perform more than Fashiola.
Nigeria Today also learnt that the meeting between the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye and Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in Ambode’s behalf ended in a deadlock as Tinubu vowed to allow the will of Lagosian to prevail at the Primaries.
Tinubu according to sources informed Pastor Adeboye that he was not ready to imposed anyone on the party structure of Lagos State and advice Ambode to go to the field and canvass for support.
