Saraki Visits Babandiga, Vows To Remain As Senate President
Saraki who was watering the ground for his political ambition visited Babangida, ahead of Niger state PDP delegates and party executives, has this to say, ‘before my meeting with PDP delegates and party executives from Niger State, I paid my respects to General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida at his home in Minna’.
General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida has thrown his weight behind Bukola Saraki’s presidential ambition, just the same way Saraki’s late father supported him during his failed presidential ambition.
“It is my turn to do what your father did to me”
“I will rightly observe that you are my son, for coming to pay a courtesy visit.
“I remember when I was still in office, I spoke with your father, Oloye Saraki who was always providing advises on a number of things attached to this country.
“He always made himself available to me, to give advises and encouragement which will move the country forward.
“Your visit today is historical, now it is your time and turn to come to me and I will do just that.”
“You mentioned three things that are very dear to us as military, and we fought to get them to preserve them.
In another development, the Senate president, Dr Olusola Saraki , has again reiterated his resolve not to step down as the Senate President. His former party, the All Progressives Congress, APC had earlier called on him to go since his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, otherwise he would face impeachment proceedings.
Saraki who has decided not to heed the call to step down, vowed he could not be ousted: according to him,” the APC is currently the minority in the senate and therefore don’t have the powers to carry out the impeachment threat”.
“The APC members know that we are in the majority and whatever they want to do they know that they don’t have the number. The other kite they are trying to fly is asking me to step down from my seat, but I can tell you that this cannot be possible as I will not step down. One thing is very clear and that is to say that I will not sacrifice the interest of the country for my personal interest and in the last three years as a Senate president, I have demonstrated that my interest is second to that of national interest,” he said
