No Assassination Attempt On Senator Ekweremadu Rather A Case Of Burglary – Nigerian Police
The Nigerian Police has said that progress report on investigation carried out so far ruled out any assassination attempt on the life of the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his family, rather it was a case of burglary.
The force however said investigation is still ongoing to determine if there is any other ulterior motives behind the incursion.
According to the police spokesman Jimoh Moshood, the arrested suspect, Mohammed Yusuf, from Kaura Namoda in Zamfara state attempted the burglary, along with one Ali, who is now at large. He said the two had earlier broken into another home belonging to Mr. Haliru Adamu at Denis Osadebey Crescent, within the same estate, where they stole phones, jewelleries and other valuables.
The residence of the Deputy Senate President was their second target, the police said. Yusuf and his accomplice broke into the Apo Legislative Quarters, home of Ekweremadu at about 0430hrs.
“There was no delay in Police intervention in the incident that occurred in the residence of the DSP. 4 Police personnel and 1 personnel of the NSCDC on duty at the residence of the DSP at the time of the incidence have been arrested and currently in detention for investigation” the force added.
