Suspected Herdsmen Allegedly Shot And Kill UNIZIK Lecturer In Enugu
According to reports, Ogueche was allegedly shot dead along the Iwolo Road in the Ezeagu Local Government Area of the state while returning from a peace meeting between his kinsmen and Fulani herdsmen in the state capital on Wednesday, March 20th.
The Special Adviser to the state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi on Security Matters, Brig. Gen. Fred Eze (retd.) had called for the meeting between community members and the herdsmen in Uzo-Uwani. Ogueche was said to have attended the meeting as the Administrative Secretary of the Uzo-Uwani Local Government Council.
Sources said the killing might have been aimed at provoking another round of crisis between the herdsmen and the people of Uzo-Uwani.
Confirming the killing of Ogueche, the state commissioner for police, Suleiman Balarabe, vowed to bring the perpetrators of the killings to justice.
Meanwhile, friends of the deceased lecturer have taken to social media to pay their tributes to him. One of them, Ezekoye Pascal, wrote
GOODBYE DR NNAMDI OGUECHE
GOODBYE MY BOSSOM FRIEND, COURSEMATE AND CLASSREP (99 BCH UNN)
Sincerely am yet to recover from the shock, over the news of your demise
A vibrant, hardworking, humble and peace-loving young man, always happy.
At the prime of your life, the nomadic snuffed the life out of you. Who will take care of your tender wife and aspiring little kids? After labouring for years to acquire a PhD at UNN, a cow rearer will just waste your life overnight, even when you came for peace. Can’t forget the night we celebrated your employment as a lecturer in UNIZIK
You went for peace to the people that hate peace, You went to preach peace to blood-sucking herdsmen, foot soldiers of devilish government and they did what they do best, shedding the blood of innocent and armless citizens.
Look at what they are doing in Kaduna south, now they brought it to Enugu, your local govt, your home, in your own farmland. We are not even secure in our own land because some people want to rear their cow in our farmland. It’s disheartening to see people campaigning and voting for such government that fails to protect its citizens, that promotes the killing of its citizens.
For those that imposed this government on us, those that contributed either by their actions or inactions, willing or unwillingly,
For those that campaigned for this evil government knowingly and unknowingly, MAY YOU FOREVER REAP THE SORROW YOU SOW FOR US? THE CRY OF HIS CHILDREN WILL RESONATE IN YOUR FAMILY
NIGERIANS DEFEND YOURSELF,
KICK HERDSMEN OUT OF YOUR VILLAGES,
YOUR SAFETY IS IN YOUR HANDS
REST IN PEACE BRO,
NIGERIA HAS FAILED YOU
NIGERIA HAS FAILED YOUR FAMILY AT LARGE.
ADIEU OUR PROF. IN VIEW
TILL WE MEET TO PART NO MORE
