Two People Feared Dead, others injured in Asaba
It was gathered that some shops within the area were allegedly looted and vandalised as residents ran helter-skelter for their lives. Two vehicles were also destroyed. An eyewitness, Jude Nwani, told us that the fight started as a result of disagreement over sales of gold materials and some dollars between the suspected cultists and the Hausa traders.
The cultists allegedly stabbed the Hausa traders on their hands and left them in a pool of blood, a situation other Hausa traders could not bear and immediately mobilized their men to avenge.
But the police Commissioner in the state, Mustafa Muhammad, who confirmed that there was a fight between some Hausa traders and suspected cultists to journalists in Asaba, disclosed that six persons have been arrested, adding that some policemen in their attempt to maintain law and order sustained unexpected injuries, and that they are currently being treated at the hospital.
He said, “Investigation is on going, and we have arrested six persons in connection with the fight which occurred at about 9.30pm. The police have restored peace in the area as two of the suspected cultists were feared killed in the process. We want to assure that those involved in the act will be brought to book.”
