Buhari: Security in Nigeria has greatly improved, economy riding on a high
President Muhammadu Buhari said security across the country has greatly improved compared to when his administration took over in 2015.
The President was speaking today at a public lecture organized to celebrate the country’s Democracy Day with theme ‘Peace building and good governance for sustainable development”.
Buhari said a government elected by the people must continually be in touch with their aspiration. He said Nigeria had experienced rough times but with good governance brought by the All Progressives Congress APC, the country have not been overwhelmed by these challenges.
On security, the President said; “Security in the country today has considerably improved against what we met in 2015. The entire country is not under occupation by any form of insurgents.
“We have worked hard to dialogue with insurgents in various parts of the country.
“We are unrelenting in reequipping our troops to engage bandits in all parts of the country in whatever guise. It is pertinent to note that insurgency and terrorism are a worldwide phenomenon”.
On corruption, he said; “Our resolve to fight corruption was informed by the fact that a corrupt free nation is crucial for development. Corruption has been the root of our underdevelopment.
“We will not relent in our efforts to eliminate corruption regardless of opposition”.
On the economy, the president said the administration has achieved increased food production and security, increased economic diversification, while the nation’s foreign reserves has reached new heights.
He assured that Nigerians will continue to see more peace, more progress and greater security.
“Nigerians should remain steadfast and keep faith with this administration,” Buhari said.
