Fayose’s white paper cannot stop me from contesting – Fayemi
The July 14th Ekiti governorship election aspirant of the All Progressives Congress APC Dr Kayode Fayemi has dismissed the White Paper issued in January 2018 barring him from contesting elections in the state for the next ten years.
It would be recalled that the Ayo Fayose-led government in the state had issued an order through a panel it raised discrediting Fayemi from seeking any elective position in the state.
But the immediate past Mines and Steel minister while speaking to newsmen over the weekend said the Supreme Court had against such paper, as such nobody could stop him from seeking to contest.
“The White Paper cannot stop me or anybody for that matter. Yes, it used to be the case in this country that you can use an administrative panel report or a judicial commission report to orchestrate the ban of a political office holder, but that period has since gone because it became very clear that this was a witch-hunting tool,” he said.
He cited the case between Atiku Abubakar and the Federal Government which ruled that no one can use the report of a commission of inquiry or an administrative panel to ban anyone from public office.
“Therefore I am sure that the so-called White Paper is of no effect. If anyone has any concrete/verifiable case against me, he/she should prove it in court,’ he said.
