Judge who denied sick Olisa Metuh’s medical treatment abroad, grant Badeh’s request to visit family abroad
Justice Okon Abang of the Federal high court Abuja who denied Former spokesperson of the People Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh’s request to travel abroad for medical treatment has granted permission to former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshall Alex Badeh (rtd), to travel abroad to visit his family and friends.
Badeh request was granted following an application moved by Badeh’s counsel, Mr. Akin Olujimi (SAN), shortly after Badeh was re-arraigned on a 14- count amended charge were he pleaded not guilty.
Badeh who is standing trial for allegedly abusing his office by diverting N3.97 billion is expected back in court between October 22 to October 26 for the continuation of his trails.
According to a report by Premium Times, Metuh had on February, 2016 informed the court through his lawyers that he was suffering from spinal cord injuries and requested a permission to travel abroad for a five weeks medical vacation, but his request was turned down by the Judge.
His lawyers led by Onyeachi Ikpeazu also presented similar request when Metuh was brought to court on a stretcher after his lawyers said the defendant defied medical advice and insisted on attending the trial and presented a medical report signed by a doctor from the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital in Anambra State. According to the medical report, Mr. Metuh suffered a deteriorating effect on his spinal cord, after he fell at an event in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.
But Mr. Abang refused the application and warned the defence to desist from appearing before his court with a medical report from any Nigerian hospital.
