No soldiers for Ekiti polls – INEC
INEC Chairman Professor Mahmoud Yakubu gave the assurance yesterday in Lagos while speaking to journalists on the state of preparedness of the commission for the polls.
According to Yakubu, over 2,100 polling units in the state would be manned by INEC officials and a maximum of 3 security personnel.
“INEC is determined to protect the integrity of our elections, and people should discountenance anybody beating the drumbeats of war.
On the preparedness of INEC for the highly rated election, Prof. Yakubu said all non-sensitive materials have been delivered to Ekiti, as part of its preparedness for the election, while the sensitive materials are in the vault of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and ready to be moved to the CBN branch in Ado-Ekiti.
“Every post-2015 elections had been a litmus test for INEC, asking, when are we going to pass the litmus test?
To us at INEC, we have taken every election to be a litmus test and we will always deliver,’ he assured.
