Saraki: Lagos tanker fire avoidable if safety standards were enforced
Speaking today in plenary after a motion by Senator Gbenga Ashafa, Saraki said;
”As we all say it is very unfortunate, but I think it is something that could have been prevented if we all abide by the guidelines and ensure enforcement of laws that are existing.
”I think this is a lesson we need to learn from this that those agencies in charge of ensuring the safety of tanker movement across the country must ensure compliance to ensure that the tanker drivers have gotten adequate licences, vehicles have received their adequate certificates showing that they are in good condition to ply our roads
”Until we continue to do that, and hold those accountable, unfortunately, we will continue to see this kind of accidents. These are things that are preventable and we must ensure on our part that we see to that.
