Governor Udom Emmanuel’s Milestone Development in Akwa Ibom State 1
Since he took over the mantle of leadership , Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State, has proven himself to be not just talented in the management of men and resources, but also a focused leader with capacities for great accomplishment.
During his electioneering campaign, he made several promises and commitment to the people of Akwa Ibom State, which became part of his five points agenda, from wealth and job creation through massive industrialization, to poverty alleviation; economic and political inclusion; infrastructural consolidation and expansion, and within 3 years he has repositioned the State for greatness.
As he noted in his inaugural speech in 2015, “My election would mark the beginning of new hope and unity in the state” without any gainsaying, Governor Emmanuel has made great strides in virtually all sectors of the economy in line with his determination to fulfill his campaign promises and make Akwa Ibom State the model of sustainable development in Africa.
The governor has made it clear from his inaugural speech that the plank of his governance would be the industrialization of Akwa Ibom state which has been a civil service state before his administration. And drawing from his private sector experience as an investment banker, Governor Udom has created within a short period of his leadership, oases of industries which have brought Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to the state.
A few examples would suffice here. Hitherto moribund industries such as the Peacock Paint Factory at Etinan local government area of the state has been resuscitated and now in full operation; We have Pencil and Tooth Pick Factory, Fertilizer Blending Plant at Abak, a syringe manufacturing company, the biggest in Africa commissioned by the vice president, Prof Yemi Osinbajo in Onna, among others.
It is worthy of note that the syringe company has the capacity to produce a billion syringe a year. Also commissioned by the vice president was a Metering Solutions company, which will ensure electricity companies billed Nigerians accurately. Recently, the Port Harcourt Power Holding Electricity Distribution (PHED) and some others in the Niger Delta region ordered over one million meters from the company.
Jobs are being created, so also are economies of scale built around these industries, all of which put money in the hands of the people. The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) recently reported that Akwa Ibom State enjoys the second largest in flow of direct foreign investments after Lagos.
On the Ibaka Deep Seaport, apart from setting up a committee to study the seaport project and make some recommendations on modalities to execute the project, governor Emmanuel has also taken steps to talk to foreign investors. According to him, the Deep Seaport will re-write the maritime story of Akwa Ibom State.
“Ibaka Deep Seaport is an audacious attempt to re-write the maritime story of Akwa Ibom State. It holds the promise of an industrial revolution of our State. It holds the promise of the industrialization of Akwa Ibom. It holds the promise of the creation of over 100,000 jobs. It holds the promise of a self-sustaining commercial city with oil and gas support services.” he noted
On Education: The education sector in Akwa Ibom State is well footed owing to his passion for quality education. From the free, compulsory and qualitative education scheme where the cost of education in primary and secondary schools are free.
