Akwa Ibom 2019: Why we are thanking God
By Udo Kierian Akpan
There is no way of knowing what the future holds except we put God at the center of it. When I was first sworn into office, I had the opportunity of interacting with my constituents, my colleagues in the house and the executives in order to chart a way forward for our State. Though we listed so many challenges, I was, and I am still very confident that our future is very bright.
My confidence was not just because we had people who were ready and willing to make a difference in our State, off course we do. But, it was mainly because we have a God who from time immemorial has always been our help, our hope and our strength.
From our earliest days till now, our story has been christened with memories and moment of His love, kindness and mercy. For instance, when the leadership of my party -The People Democratic Party (PDP) endorsed me to contest the just concluded election, I was given a bible as a symbol of our collective commitment to always look up to God and work toward the development of our state, that singular act of faith was a great inspiration.
That we won the just concluded election in the state is not by our strength but it’s a testament to His faithfulness- grace and love. We are not just a State named after God, we are a State that love God.
As I write this, I am full of hope that we will continue to overcome the many challenges facing our State.
