Let us not forget a time when there was no hope
By Abel Udoekene
My love for Oruk Anam prompted this write-up. First as the son of the soil and an ambassador of hope, the story of 2015 is still very fresh in my mind, I can still recall when some people brought down rain and forced some of our people to use their broom to fight the rain, I can also remember when some other people provided umbrella to put out the rain and directed the broom holders to return the broom to the owners, while some returned immediately, others resisted, but along the line, some still sneak in ‘Nicodemusly’ to denounce their affiliation with the broom.
Infact just recently a man who championed the distribution of the broom’s value in 2015 (a very revered man from Oruk Anam) just returned back to the Umbrella family with some heartbreaking tales.
Secondly, since the voice of those who claimed to love ‘Oruk’ more than Oruk Anam and those who keep reminding us that they love ‘Anam’ more than Oruk Anam seems to be louder than the few of us, it is expedient that we pause this narrative before this seed of dis-unity leads us to a story where ‘the broom family’ will come and dance naked at our sacred altar of Unity.
If you have followed the political trends of Oruk Anam closely, especially in the early days when the State chairman of the broom family was from Oruk Anam, or when the chairman of the 2015 broom sharing committee was from Oruk Anam, there was this fear that Oruk Anam may fall into the broom family’.
I can still recall when Some people came to our doorstep in their numbers under the disguise of the umbrella only to warn us not to support the Umbrella in the election because they were not happy that the governor who is now a Senator was about to install a successor. But as their story was gathering momentum a certain man who is now the house leader of the State House of Assembly came out with another narrative.
His narratives rekindled hope and the few remaining strategists reconvene, the Umbrella family did not only win the election, they won massively. If you were there at the second meeting according to how an Umbrella chieftain narrated his ordeals you would have ‘understand’ the true meaning of unity, the power of togetherness and the sacrifices most of the strategists made to ensure they gave our in-law a smooth ride to the hilltop mansion.
What is the benefit of ‘their’ sacrifices, since our in-law became the King? Let me say this, a former governor of the state who was also our in-law built a school in my village, the man who came after him who is now a Senator was very busy with his uncommon transformation agenda, leaving the stage for another in-law of Oruk Anam to do the final paperwork and commissioning. It’s a very good story that gets most of us thinking, well that’s a reflection for another day
I must say that the ongoing sponsored assault on a man who kept the umbrella in Oruk Anam standing is uncalled for. I once told a special adviser to one of the aspirants for the state house of Assembly to focus more on the ingredient of his ‘Pepsi’ and what the ‘Pepsi’ can do for Oruk Anam people, instead of spending his resources on preaching the message of how long the Fanta had existed without even listing what the ‘Fanta’ has done to the Umbrella family and the people of Oruk Anam
The question on everyone’s lip right now is zoning and in the last Stakeholders meeting of the local government which I was fortunate to attend, zoning is a prerequisite function of the umbrella family and they are yet to give their verdict on which part of the local government will carry their flag, until the umbrella family gives their verdicts every other story is just rumor.
Currently, the chairman is from Oruk and the House member is from Anam, if the umbrella family will ask the chairman to resign so that vice-chairman who is from Anam can become the chairman to pave way for Oruk to provide the House member for equity, so be it, if they will ask Anam to maintain the house of Assembly seats since the Chairman is from Oruk, so be it, if they will just say Oruk take it all, so be it. Whatever decision the umbrella family arrives at, the broom family who is slowly gathering momentum will give them a good fight. Let me remind us that It will be a big shame if we let our in-law down at this critical time
I think right now, everyone has the Constitutional right to contest which includes the house leader, He has the capacity and the integrity to carry the cross again, to all other aspirants, especially my brothers from Oruk, tell us what you can do, don’t just hide within the shadow and share the sentiment that someone somewhere will come and give you the ticket on the platter of gold.
