Political relevance of Don Etiebet finally laid to rest

By Amadie Akpabio, Ikot Ibritam.
In what many described as the last burial of Atuekong Don Etiebet’s political dynasty, the people of the urban political wards (Ward 1 and 2) in Oruk Anam local government area, gathered in their numbers over the weekend, to celebrate the Victory of Gov Udom Emmanuel, Rt Hon Sir Udo Kierian Akpan and the defeat of Atuekong Don Etiebet and his party (All Progressive Congress) in the just concluded general elections.
Addressing the gathering, the Leader of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and member – elect for Oruk Anam State Constituency – Rt Hon Sir Udo Kierian Akpan, appreciated the people of the area for standing by him, the Governor, and all other PDP candidates before and during the elections.
The the former deputy Speaker of Akwa Ibom state house of Assembly who will be representing the people of Oruk Anam for the third time in the State Assembly who spoke through Hon Nnamso Idiong, while assuring his constituents of more dividends of democracy, presented gifts and food items including a life cow to the people of the area, in appreciation of their constant solidarity with him. Idiong also used the occasion to commend the people of the urban wards for showing commitment with the PDP, not minding his arrest and unlawful detention, spearheaded by the his uncle, Atuekong Don Etiebet.
Hear him, “throughout the election period, I was in detention, I was not there because I committed any offence, I was detained because I am a member of PDP, but the evil doers couldn’t get their way because there has been an existing structure on ground. I’m here to tell you that I’m very glad, because my uncle thought PDP will not win the elections in these urban wards, but the victory was possible through your collective efforts. I can say boldly that the only party that has brought development to Oruk Anam and Akwa Ibom State is PDP, I’m happy with this victory and also confident that, some of the road projects in Oruk Anam which are ongoing, will be completed and commissioned before the end of the year 2023.” Idiong added.
The political leader of Ward 1 reteirated his commitment to stand firm with the PDP devoid of intimidation by those he described as ” frustrated and conscience deadened political elders”. Recalling the past, Obongunwana Idiong maintained that as a one time petroleum Minister, Etiebet had the powers to have developed the area, but development was not his concern. He rather saw it as an opportunity to intimidate his kinsmen and force them to support his failed party.
Recall that this is not the first time the former petroleum Minister has failed an election in his unit, ward and the local government area. What makes this one more suicidal, is failing an election with over 100 armed thugs in his residence, with trucks loaded with armed security personnels, yet the peoples will prevailed. From all indications, the political relevance of Etiebet has been finally laid to rest.
The the event also had in attendance, a two term councillor and chapter officer of the People’s Democratic Party Rt Hon Elder Ezekiel Obosi, past and present political office holders, women, youths, stakeholders
