Udo Kierian Akpan receives certificate of return
...promises all inconclusive representation
The independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented the certificate of return to Rt Hon (Sir) Udo Kierian Akpan, member elect, Oruk Anam State Constituency.
The incumbent Leader of the House of Assembly who won his reelection bid with a total of 34,836 votes to defeat his closest rival -Mr Noah Noah of the All Progressive (APC) who had 9,241Votes, on Thursday, received his certificate of return in the company of his wife from the Akwa Ibom state Resident Electoral Commissioner – Bar Mike Igini at the State INEC headquarters, Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo.
Speaking during the reception organized to mark the event at Duellaz Landmark Event Centre Uyo, Rt Hon Akpan congratulated all his supporters for fighting a good fight before, during and after the elections. The former deputy Speaker in his usual way, spoke on the need to drop all other sentiments and focus only on the interest of Oruk Anam LGA.
In making further remarks, Akpan also congratulated the the Akwa Ibom state Governor – Mr Udom Emmanuel for his reelection. He described the Governor’s reelection as the collective will of well meaning Akwa Ibomites. While also congratulating other State House of Assembly members- elect for their victory, Rt Hon Akpan who applauded the PDP for winning 25 out of the 26 Assembly seats in the State, expressed confidence that PDP will also win in Essien Udim State Constituency, when ever INEC calls for a rerun.
Speaking about his third term agenda, the former labour leader promised to maintain an all inconclusive representation. “Our government will remain inclusive and our doors will remain open, I therefore assure you that we will continue to engage all and sundry that have the best interest of Oruk Anam at heart, irrespective of the political party affiliation.” He added.
Goodwill messages were presented by Mr Unyime Idem – member elect for Ukanafun/Oruk Anam federal Constituency, Atuekong Ubong Idiong – Chairman Oruk Anam LGA, Party officers/Elders, Government appointees and many other political office holders.
The reception party which also featured music and special victory dance, was equally attended by members of the main opposition party, led by Elder Ichong Henry Umoren of the APC, Women, Traditional rulers, Students, youths and women from Oruk Anam and beyond.
