Akwa Ibom State commissioner for Commerce, Investment and Industry, Prince Ukpong Akpabio has denied allegations that he betrayed former Senate Minority leader, Godswill Obot Akpabio during the just concluded general election.
Speaking on Radio Akwa Ibom 90.5 Fm -Uyo, Prince Akpabio noted that he reached out to Akpabio when he heard the rumours of his defection and Akpabio informed him of his decision to defect to the All Progressive Congress (APC).
“For those who said I betrayed my brother, I would like to ask them the dictionary definition of betrayal,
“From the day that I went to my brother and said to him that I am tired of hearing rumours, that I wanted him to tell me as his younger brother if he was was defecting and he said yes, I had told him that I will not be able to follow him to APC,” he noted.
Prince Akpabio noted that he never went back to meet Akpabio after the meeting and has been completely faithful to the People Democratic Party (PDP).
“Since then, I never went back to him, I never joined a single APC gathering as a mole looking for information or some sought of bargaining chip. So, I didn’t betray anybody.
“Even my brother Senator Godswill Akpabio can not say I betrayed him.
Politics aside, I am royalty, I can not carry broom,” he continued.
He noted that he was not perturbed on the gang up against him, maintaining that the prayers of Governor Udom Emmanuel was enough to keep him safe.
“I was not perturbed, I was not bothered at all at what was done against me because I know that I was covered by the prayers of his Excellency. I was more confident by the prayers that His Excellency led during our last prayer meeting before the elections”
He described Governor Emmanuel as a gift to Akwa Ibom who has brought more foreign direct investment to Akwa Ibom more than any other Governor in the history of the State.
“I just came back from Lagos and I can confirm to you that we have successfully attracted new set of investors. In the coming days, we’re going to have a new production line line at the Akwa Ibom Industrial estate at Itam where tissue papers will be produced from the bamboo that is being planted in the State.
“The main focuss of Deacon Udom Emmanuel is to ensure that 80% of the products consumed in Akwa Ibom State are produced in Akwa Ibom State and that is on course as we speak
“I will like to put on Record that since the creation of Akwa Ibom State that there is no administration that has attracted more foreign direct investment than the administration of Deacon Udom Emmanuel. ” He added
