Akwa Ibom Traders Cooperative Association which is the apex body of Traders union in Akwa Ibom State, has alleged that some desperate political power and attention seekers are lobbying some traders in the state to discredit the performance of the pioneer Aide to the governor on Trade and Market Matters, Akparawa Idorenyin Raphael.
The Executive members of the Association who spoke with newsmen shortly after a close door meeting over the weekend, said the allegation was meant to distract the focused, innovative and performing Governor’s Aide from discharging his primary duties as well as assigned tasks.
Speaking, Comrade Umoh Cyril who is the Vice Chairman of the Association said “we are aware that some people without business address but parading themselves as traders are up to discredit the efforts of the SA to the Governor on trade. These people who cannot point to their shops anywhere in the world are alleging that Akparawa Raphael was not instrumental to the Governor’s reelection.”
Comrade Cyril who spoke further, said authoritatively that based on credible intelligence, it has been revealed that some ill minded persons lobbying for political appointments have moved a step further.
“They are also working very hard to discredit the State Government’s 2Billion Naira interest free loans to Akwa Ibom Traders which has been revolving successfully in the last three years. Akwa Ibom Traders must not allow desperate politicians claiming to be traders to scuttle the reputation of the SA and relationship between the Traders and Governor Udom Emmanuel’s led administration.” Umoh added.
Describing Akparawa Raphael as the reliable bridge between the State Government and the Traders, Obong Ekpenyong Christopher Usoro who is the Traders Board of Trustee’s Chairman, expressed satisfaction with the leadership styles, political sensitisation and grassroots mobilization strategies of Akparawa Raphael prior to the general election. Spaco as fondly called, while also condemning the undue criticism, said he can recommend Akparawa Raphael for any higher political appointment. According to him, “the reward for good works is more work”.
On the 2billion naira interest free loans, Spaco who described himself as as “a benefactor of the loan” noted that the disbursements were made only to traders who had Guarantors and other needed requirements. According to the traders’ BOT Chairman, “Traders are repaying the interest free loans, and different categories of Traders have benefited”.
Obong Usoro who received a brand new car last year courtesy of Governor Emmanuel’s magnanimity , seized the opportunity to congratulate Governor Emmanuel on his reelection victory. He assured the Governor of a smooth and better relationship/ support from the traders throughout his( Gov Emmanuel) second term in office.
The Secretary of the Association Cmrd Effiong Ekpenyong amongst other members of the Association who were in the meeting also passed a vote of confidence on the Governor’s Aide.
