We don’t have social media regulation bill yet– Senate committee
The Senate Committee on ICT and Cybercrime says it has expanded and made stronger the bill on Cybercrimes and Other Online Frauds and not the social media regulation bill as being rumored in some quarters.
Committee chairman AbdulFatai Buhari while making the clarification in Abuja said although it was considering a bill to regulate social media in Nigeria, especially in the face of the current security situation mostly being fuelled by hate speech on social media, only the cybercrime bill is on the front burner and no date has been fixed for its passage as well.
“We have got experts to advise us and we have presented a bill (on cybercrime) to the Senate. The bill has passed the first reading and it has been listed for second reading.
“We have reviewed it (the bill) and have expanded on it and even made it stronger,” he added.
