A ballad of the trip and the fall of President Buhari
By Comr. Ewa Okpo Edmund
So President Buhari went to campaign in Lokoja and all the nation could remember about that outing is that he slumped nay tripped and almost went tumbling down but for the quick reflex of his “handlers” who were close enough to save him. God that would have been a national disgrace to an already heaping national embarrassments of this administration.
Trust Nigerians to make all sorts of comical commentaries about the averted national disaster. My good friend and brother Nsibiet John even went lamenting that “whoever is sending Buhari on this mission shall not go unpunished…” and I in deed agree with him. Even his supporters too are in corroboration as some have been accusing the rest of us of wishing the old man death which keeps me wondering how they know that their president could have died should the fall had not been declared “incomplete”. No offense intended please.
Sincerely, I didn’t even think of it that way. What a disaster it would have been! No president deserves to fall like that let alone die in that manner no matter how incapacitated he may be. God forbid!
But what could have been responsible for that? How many presidents trip on campaigns or convoys? Incidentally his supporters have labelled our querry “Hate Speech” demanding for our persecution in the name of prosecution.
But our concerns are as natural as that of Americans when a hale, hearty and much more agile and younger President Gerald Ford tripped and fell climbing down a plane at Austria.
Perhaps one should refresh their hypocritical memories how most of them amused themselves over 90 year old President Mugabe’s trip and fall sometime ago in 2015. Two years later he was out of office.
Who knows if this is a sign of the soon coming end of His Excellency’s trip at Aso Rock? Can Nigerians wait for him to resign like Mugabe or will we retire him come February this year at the presidential polls?
Surprisingly, barely six hours after Baba escaped the great fall Kadaria Ahmed asked him on her televised town hall interview, The Candidates, if he’ll concede to his opponent should he loose at the polls like his predecessor did to him and Baba declared that it is “impossible” for him to lose. Wow, a president who finds it possible to trip and fall during campaigns declares it is impossible to trip and fall at the polls. Anyway, Kadaria insisted he answered the question the way it was asked and Baba Yusuf agreed that it wouldn’t be the first time he’d lose an election. What he didn’t want to hear is that “it won’t be the second time he’ll win electionin this country”…
Be that as it may, we know his supporters will see nothing wrong with such disposition. In fact, I won’t be surprised if the likes of Franklyn, David Augustine and their APC CLO in Akwa Ibom state embark on a protest against all those raising alarm over the presidents trip and fall. Perhaps, the NANS President who visited him recently to sing his praises while university campuses are under lock and key may find this a very good opportunity to donate a presidential wheelchair to the 73 year old man whom Femi Adesina claims “gets better with age” yet can’t seem to remember anything.
Oh, imagine how Sen. Ita Enang would have padded the 2019 budget to capture the purchase of a billion dollar presidential wheelchair should the fall had happened earlier. The things that God saves Nigerians from without our praying and knowing.
By the way, where was Sen. Dino Melaye when this happened? I’d be disappointed if Sen. Godswil Akpabio doesn’t accuse the drama king of having a hand in this afterall, Kogi is Dino’s. Or could it be that Dino’s ancestors have a hand in Baba’s fall?
By the way again, before you come and vilify me for making such political content of an Old Man’s predicament remember Chinua Achebe’s warning, one who brings a maggot infested wood to his abode should expect to host ants. Your Old Man should go where old men stay if he doesn’t want rough play.
Alas! Fellow Nigerians, beware of those who quickly held the president from falling when he tripped. They’ll be even more alert when he trips at the polls this February.
