Disregard Fashola Call, We Won’t Repeat The Mistakes Of The Past – Yoruba Youths

The Yoruba Youth Council (YYC) has given a sharp-witted response to the statement credited to Babatunde Fashola, Minister of Power, Works and Housing

In a call to the South-West, he said that power will return to the South-West in 2023 if they re-elect President Muhammadu Buhari for a second term in the 2019 presidential poll.

At a special town hall meeting on infrastructure, organized by the Ministry of Information and Culture and the National Orientation Agency, Fashola had called on the people of the South-West to support the second term ambition of President Buhari to ensure the return of power to the region in 2023.

The YYC has said such calls by the Minister should be disregarded.

However, a statement jointly signed by Eric Oluwole, YYC National President and Adeola Aderibigbe, the National Pubilicty Secretary, obtained by Sahara Reporters on Friday in Akure, called on the people to disregard the Minister’s statement, noting that “they would strive to ensure they resist all the mistakes of the past”.

The statement read: “Our attention has been drawn to a vague promise by a former Governor of Lagos State and current Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola during the special town hall meeting organised by the Ministry of Information and Culture and the National Orientation Agency recently, advising Yorubas especially the youth to vote for the incumbent president, Mr Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 election so as to enable power shift to the South West in 2023.

“We observe with consternation that Mr Fashola, who is a beneficiary of the social economic crisis [into] which the ruling elite has plunged the Nigerian youth, could start serving as an adviser at this critical period of our nation’s existence.

Having been a beneficiary of democratic rule since 1999, we will not forget the level of corruption perpetrated by the Minister when he was Governor of Lagos State as leaked by his predecessor, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, on assumption to office.

“Yoruba youth also remember with consternation, the statements credited to Mr Fashola that Nigeria’s power problems could be fixed in six months.

Three years of his reign, the Minister in charge of power has not solved our perennial power problems.

We want him and his like, who are feeding Nigerians with propaganda from the seat of power, to know that the youth have learned from history and will strive hard not to repeat the mistakes of the past in our resolve to revamp the economy of Nigeria.

“The same presidency Mr Fashola is promising Yoruba youth in 2023 is what the current Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chris Ngige promised the South Easterners.

Yorubas Are Urged To Shun Buhari In 2019 Elections

Members of Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) from the South West have advised people of the Yoruba ethnic group not to vote for President Buhari in the 2019 election.

The group stated this during a protest they organized in Abuja yesterday, October 10th to demand the release of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and his wife who have been in detention since 2015 after his organization clashed with the Nigerian Army in Kaduna state.

The South West Coordinator of the group, Muftau Zakariya, who led members of the group in the protest, marched to the entrance of the Presidential Villa.

“We came to protest today in Abuja to seek the release of our leader and convince government to obey court order. The court has ordered that El-Zakzaky should be released and should be paid N50 million as damages to him and his wife, because of the illegal detention he has been subjected to. But today, the government has refused to obey that order.

“I am especially using this opportunity to talk to my fellow Yoruba men. No Yoruba man that is freely born should vote for Buhari. Buhari has killed his own people. Somebody that kills Northerners, Hausas and the elite; who shot a Muslim scholar, who jailed him and refused to grant him bail. Let me tell you the equivalent of what Buhari has done; It’s like somebody catching Pastor Adeboye at RCCG, and proceeds to shoot and jail him. Can anybody expect that there is nobody in Yorubaland he cannot jail; of course, he can jail anybody.

“If a President can go to the Nigerian Bar Association and tell them that he will not obey the rule of law where security is concerned, it shows you how shallow-minded this man is. This is the man that swore an oath on the Koran, because he is a Muslim to obey the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He still believes that he is a military dictator and that Nigerians that he rules over are mere animals and that he can do whatever he likes to us.

“That is why I am using this avenue to appeal to Nigerians. Anybody that votes for Buhari is voting for somebody that does not believe in the rule of law. Anybody that votes for Buhari is voting for somebody that believes that killings should continue in Benue, Zamfara and other parts of the country.

“Do you think when Yoruba people die, or any other person dies in Nigeria, he cares? This man does not care; that is why we should just give him red card to just go back to Daura and start farming.” Zakariya said

The protesters were prevented from gaining entry into the Presidential Villa by stern-looking policemen.

Yoruba Elders Commend Kemi Adeosun’s Achievement As Minister Of Finance

The Yoruba Council of Elders, YCE has voiced their support for Kemi Adeosun over her conduct in resigning her job as the Minister of Finance

Buhari on Friday accepted Adeosun’s resignation as Minister of Finance while replacing her with Zainab Ahmed in an acting capacity.

Adeosun said in her letter of resignation that she was leaving as a result of allegation of forgery of her NYSC certificate.

However, reacting to the development, Secretary General of the Yoruba Council of Elders, Dr Kunle Olajide in a statement on Saturday observed that Adeosun was a victim of mischievous individuals involved in the process that produced the forged certificate, adding that there were government officials who had been accused of one fraudulent practice or the other but still in government in various capacities.

YCE also commended Kemi Odeosun for leaving behind a tremendous achievement as a minister, having brought the Nigeria economy out of recession when she was given no chance.

He has these to say, “YCE received the news of Adeosun’s exit from the cabinet with sadness and joy. It was with sadness because she was exiting office in an inglorious circumstance.

“ Her pedigree and antecedent as mentioned in her resignation letter, however, speak volume of her confidence, character and capability.

“We are proud of her achievements in office because she assumed duty at a difficult time in the history of the country. She steered Nigeria out of recession when many did not give her a chance to do so.

“YCE commends her courage to resign honourably when she discovered that her NYSC certificate was not genuine.”

Olajide urged the former minister not to be discouraged by the temporary setback, saying that her services might still be required in the future.

Enough is enough, stop attacking Obasanjo, Yoruba group warns Soyinka

The Yoruba Consultative Forum (YCF) has warned Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka to stop attacking former president Olusegun Obasanjo.

This was contained in a statement signed by its President, Prof. Tejumade Rhodes and made available to newsmen on Tuesday.

Soyinka during the presentation of his latest interventions series, Interventions VIII, titled, “Quis Custodiet Ipsos Custodes?: Gani’s Unfinished Business,” had stated that Obasanjo frustrated June 12 and often put himself forward on many national issues.

According to him “I don’t remember any good he (Obasanjo) has done. It will be very difficult to find one. I can’t remember any at this moment”

The YCF in response noted that Soyinka has overstepped his boundaries and must retrace his step immediately, they maintained that the attack of former president Obasanjo by Soyinka was unbecoming of a man of his calibre

“At a time when everyone is nudging Obasanjo forward as the courageous rallying point against the present dislocations in our polity, Soyinka is salivating in some primitive laceration of the old soldier, revelling in a poisonous vendetta and egregious abuse against Obasanjo.” the group noted.

“In Soyinka’s warped cosmology, he insists that Obasanjo is not the fit and proper person to lead the new movement against the warped national polity. This is malicious, undignifying, spurious, a drooling mechanical twaddle bound for literary garbage.

“Of course Obasanjo, like all of us, is not perfect. But he is a courageous man, a superlative patriot who contends with any errant power with thorough sincerity, with masterful resolve to rectify the observable wrongs.

“Soyinka has now eroded his once sterling heights of great crusader and crashed his status to a Lilliputian pamphleteer, angry at the world, pouring venom everywhere without tactical purity.”

The forum said it had now resolved to take on Soyinka “with balanced intellectual vigour wherever he erupts again in his crude vitriol against Obasanjo.”

“Enough is enough,” the group added.

Yoruba Youths Reveals Why They Won’t Support Buhari For Second Term

The Yoruba youth Council has revealed reasons why they will not embrace President Muhammadu Buhari for President in 2019.

The gathering removed itself from an arranged Yoruba youth Rally for President’s Second term. Unbalanced arrangements, Fulani Herdsmen killings, Economic hardship were among the reasons recorded by the gathering.

Oluwole Eric and its Publicity Secretary, Lekan Shobowale, YYC denied any association with the arranged rally. The announcement read;

“It has gone to our notice that a gathering known as Yoruba Progressive People’s Congress, an arm of a political gathering (name withheld) drove by one Pelumi Amodu is in no way, shape or form an agent of Yoruba Youth Council or working for YYC.

The gathering in its own particular knowledge supported and required an across the country rally for the sake of Yoruba Youths as a consequence of the letter of previous President Olusegun Obasanjo to President Muhammadu Buhari.We at the Yoruba Youth Council thusly separate ourselves from this arrangement.

Yorubas Always Regret Associating With Northerners – Doyin Okupe

Doyin Okupe, has said that when Northerners and the Yorubas associate together, the Yorubas always regret the association. He said his other politicians are in support of his conclusion because of their experiences.

Doyin challenged any Southwest Leader to prove him wrong including that most northern lawmakers he had worked with played exceptionally narrow minded and parochial governmental issues.

Doyin who was the Former aide to the immediate past President, Goodluck Jonathan said this in a post he shared on Facebook where he kept up that the northern political elites frequently time, make them, the southern colleagues look like saboteurs of their kin.
