PDP Presidential primary: Allow delegates to votes, Yakasai begs PDP
Chairman of Northern Elders Council (NEC), Alhaji Tanko Yakasai has advised the People Democratic Party (PDP) to allow delegates to exercise their civic responsibilities and shun any idea of a consensus candidate.
Yakasai made the appeal in Abuja in a chat with newsmen.
According to him, subjecting candidates to the pressure of fielding a consensus candidate was not good for democracy.
“The party’s rival, APC, has already settled for the incumbent President, Muhammadu Buhari,” he noted.
“The new trend has emerged in the Nigerian electoral process by which aspirants are subjected to pressure for a ‘consensus candidate’ which in my opinion is against the spirit and tenets of true democracy.
“Delegates should be allowed to choose a candidate of their freewill: that is true democracy,” he added.
