2019 Election Stands By Timetable — Prof. Yakubu
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, says the constituent body has no motivation to change the present arrangement of the 2019 general election.
Yakubu, who said this yesterday in Abuja at a general consultative party with the media, did not discount the likelihood of taking a gander at the succession of the decision timetable if there was any convincing issue.
“On ninth January, we issued the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2019 General Elections in light of our forces and surviving laws and nothing has changed. There is a standard behind the decision of these dates-as our vote based system develops, we ought to move from vulnerability to conviction.
“To the extent the Commission is worried, there is no lawful lacuna for the time being; we are working in view of existing laws. In any case, if something happens tomorrow, we will turn out clear and tell Nigerians, yet I think we are not working in light of guesses,” he said.
The INEC executive, who emphasized the worry of the constituent body over what he called “adaptation of the discretionary procedure,” said the commission was at that point working with security offices to stop the hazard.
Yakubu said INEC was idealistic in regards to the direct of free, reasonable and valid general election in perspective of its proceeded with engagement with basic partners in the appointive procedure.
