Why I did not follow Akpabio to APC, Former aide finally opens up
A former aide to the Senator Representing Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district in the National Assembly, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, Prince Ukandie Ukpe who resigned immediately the Senator dumps the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC) has finally given reasons on why he refused to follow the Senator to APC.
News Agency of Nigeria reports that Prince Ukandie Ukpe gave the reasons when he addressed newsmen during an empowerment programme he hosted for People of his ward, ward 4 in Oruk Anam Local government area, Akwa Ibom State.
Prince Ukpe who described himself as a good student of Senator Akpabio explained how the Senator used to warn them not to be equally yoked with APC revealing that those who were in APC were cursed. According to him, Akpabio instilled in them that fear and hatred for APC.
“Anyone who was close to my former boss (Akpabio) would understand the level of his hatred for APC. He used to stand out in the open and cursed them,” he told newsmen
“On many occasions, he has likened the APC symbol -broom as a symbol of maids, he would beg us not to allow the broom party to take over Akwa Ibom”
Prince Ukpe noted that he was very shocked when the news came to him that Akpabio was joining the APC.
“It was so sudden, there was no consultations, he just woke up one morning and informed us that he was moving, As a man of principles, I told him to his face that I would not follow him to APC and resigned Immediately”
He disclosed that he has never regretted his actions but was very grateful to Akpabio for the opportunity to serve as his aide.
He urged his people to rally round the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel, noting that Udom Emmanuel means well for the State.
“If you look at Oruk Anam today, there are so many completed and ongoing projects by Governor Udom Emmanuel administration, there is no government in the history of our State in this democratic dispensation that has remembered us as the government of Udom Emmanuel”
Responding to his empowerment scheme, the women leader of the Ward, Mrs. Helen thanked Prince Ukpe for remembering them, noting that Prince Ukpe had done well and disclosed that they will stand with him to return Udom Emmanuel 100% in 2019.
Also Speaking, a Political chieftain of the ward, chief Sunday Okoko lauded Prince Ukpe for the action and thanked the people of the ward for their support to Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration, maintaining that the wife of the governor, Her Excellency Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel who was a grand-daughter of the ward was very happy with their support.
He noted that the governor was doing everything to fast-track the completion of ongoing projects in the Local government area.
