Re: Obasanjo’s visit to Akwa Ibom State: APC’s senseless spin.
The attention of the Senator representing Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, Senator Godswill Akpabio has been drawn to a malicious press release by the Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Akwa Ibom State, Mr Ini Ememobong which made insinuations that the Senator made uncomplimentary remarks about the recent visit of former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to Akwa Ibom State. Nothing could be further from the truth.
We want to state categorically that Senator Akpabio holds the former President, Chief Obasanjo in very high esteem and has not spoken either privately or in public against the Elder Statesman.
Even though Senator Akpabio for nationalistic reasons has had cause to leave his former party, the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC), he recognizes the right of the former President and indeed anyone else to associate freely with whosoever he chooses to and to visit any part of the country he desires to go to.
The Senator has had a long and beneficial relationship with the former President and no amount of gossipy article and political spin by the PDP Publicity Secretary, Akwa Ibom State can take that away from the two Statesmen.
We know that the PDP in Akwa Ibom State has been gasping for breath since the movement of Senator Akpabio into the APC. In reaction to losing this political life support machine, the party has enlisted all manners of people to manufacture and fabricate all kinds of falsehood against Senator Akpabio, hoping one will stick. However, Akwa Ibom people have seen through their desperation.
It is instructive that Mr. Emeobong’s mischievous press release could not pin-point any instance that Senator Akpabio denigrated Chief Obasanjo but only relied on “APC’s senseless spin.” Instead of showcasing what the Governor of Akwa Ibom State has done to deserve a second term, the sole agenda of the government media team has been to pull down Senator Akpabio through vile propaganda as if this will guarantee their master a return to the Hilltop Mansion.
The Akwa Ibom State PDP Publicity Secretary who has become the cheer-leader of Senator Akpabio’s traducers may have forgotten the role the same man played as his Messenger of Destiny in his becoming whatever he is today. I dare say Mr Ememobong may not have known his current paymasters if not for Senator Akpabio.
According to the immortal words of John F. Kennedy “We must find time to stop and thank the people who made a difference in our lives.” However, if we cannot show gratitude to a benefactor must we be recruited into a band of marauding cyber bandits?
