Extra: Buhari’s group move to cut Tinubu’s influence in APC
By Usiju Audu, Abuja
According to a source who spoke with our correspondent on condition of anonymity, most of them are scared that if they allow Tinubu to produce the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representative, Tinubu may become more powerful than the President.
An APC Senator from North East who is part of the group disclosed that Tinubu was allegedly in charge of the Vice Presidency and It was not proper for the APC to allow him to Impose Ahmed Lawan on the Senate and Femi Gbajiamila on the House of Representatives, noting that the move maybe suicidal for the President, if what happened in Buhari’s first term repeat itself again.
“You know Tinubu was sideline by President Buhari in his first term, even when he was the one that ensures his victory in the South West. If that situation occurs again and Tinubu men are in charge of the National Assembly, we are not sure, if we will be able to control the anger of Tinubu. He is a good man, but this is National politics, we have to protect the President
“I’m not saying that Lawan is not qualified to be Senate President, of course, he has been our leader in the 8th Senate, he has the character and the capability. But I’m afraid he will be Tinubu’s stooge. We don’t need a stooge, we need a Senate President.
An APC governor who spoke with our reporter disclosed that he was in total support of the Party’s move to support Lawan for the Senate Presidency, but was not happy with the party’s decision to sideline the South East and South South.
According to him, If the President is from North West, Vice President – South West, then it would be a great injustice if the South West who has the Vice President will also produce the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
He noted that the move will spell doom for the unity of Nigeria and the APC in 2023
