Uwem Udoma and the tragedy of an impending defeat – Part 2
By AmanamHillary Umofia
Whenever the name Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekon is mentioned especially in political scenes, fear begins to creep potential opponents. His political opponents are always intimidated by the sequential rise of the political profile of this erudite legislator. His capacity, competence, sagacity, dexterity and political prowess are some of the signature attributes that give his political opponents sleepless nights.
Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekon has demonstrated competences and capacities as a legislator which in turn endeared him to his constituents. It is on this note that the people of Abak Federal constituency at all times are willing to queue behind him.
Some days ago, I came across a publication on the social media titled; REJECTED: Abak APC elders, chapter exco, reject Hon Ekon’s 3rd term bid, cancels consultation with Reps. Without consulting a soothsayer, I knew the personality behind the publication. I see a political mediocre crying because of the emergence of a superlative performer. The sponsor of the said publication is a political coward of the highest degree. I wish to state it here categorically that there was no such meeting at Abak chapter of the All Progressive Congress. I want to also put it straight to the general public that Abak Chapter of the All Progressive Congress does not have elders council. Ever since the appointment of Barr. Joe Ukpong as the chairman of the council, he has failed to constitute the council in line with the party guidelines. It is therefore ridiculous and childish for a non existent body to meet for a resolution that is against the party’s stand.
The All Progressive Congress, as was well pronounced by the leader of the party in the state, Chief Don Etiebet does not recognize zoning of any political office in the forthcoming general elections. It is therefore empirically evidence that the purported meeting and it subsequent communique was orchestrated by certain undesirable elements in the party whose antecedent has been all-round failures and disappointments.
According to the publication, they stated that Hon. Emmanuel Ekon poor performance in the past eight years is the reason he should not be endorsed for another term. This kind of statement is an evidence of the fact that desperation and fear could be a serious cause of blindness. May I bring to the knowledge of the pseudo-elders council and self-acclaimed stakeholders that the combined performances of the last three representations in Abak Federal constituency cannot equal, march or parallel the achievements of Rt Hon Emmanuel Ekon in the House of Representatives.
Claiming to have the interest of Abak at heart by the sponsor of this fake publication is an illusion that we have experienced before now. Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekon in his capacity has made Government Technical College Abak a beneficiary of an oil and gas training center. He has trained not less than 7 Engineers from Abak on oil and gas related skills and has secured jobs in oil servicing companies for them.
Let me remind Hon. Uwem Udoma who is the man behind this publication that House of Representatives connotes capacity and competence. It is cowardly cowardice for him to hide behind his houseboy to attack the personality of a capacity developer, an erudite legislator, a superlative performer and a pragmatic lawmaker; Rt Hon Emmanuel Ekon. He should not forget in a hurry his disappointing outing in 2007. He should not forget how he threw away the slot of Abak in that administration. He should not forget how he failed to protect the interest of Abak people end up coming back as an impeached deputy speaker. Oh! What a failed representation it was. A representation of war on the floor of the house. A man that was characterized by his ability to fight and break mace on the floor of the house. Even though the people of Abak will forget the pain and bitterness of such failed representation, we will not forget the cause of those pains and the lost we suffered as direct consequences of such a failed outing.
He is today a preacher and a proponent of zoning even when such word is to the language of the party in the state. The question is, Uwem when you contested for the seat of Abak state constituency, was it the turn of Abak clan or Ediene clan? Why didn’t you allow all the contestants to be from Ediene clan? You have a short memory here.
Hon. Uwem Udoma should not also forgot very soon that the position he was in the NDDC was not his birthright but the slot of the federal constituency. Can Hon Uwem Udoma show us what he has done for the people of Abak Federal constituency in his years in the NDDC? None! We cannot therefore entrust the destiny and the future of our people into the hands of selfish individual who will not protect it for the present generation and the unborn.
There is no need for Uwem Udoma to start crying for consensus selection. A wolf in a sheep clothing pretending to be putting Abak first. If you are so popular and acceptable to the people, you then need not to be intimidated by contesting for the ticket of the party. Here, Rt Hon Emmanuel Ekon is the man to beat. Consensus is for failures, it is for coward, it is for mediocre and people whose personalities are questionable.
Uwem Udoma should not drag Abak to the mud by selfishly publishing an unsigned position of his, claiming it to be that of the party in Abak. Enough is enough. Yes! Rt Hon Emmanuel Ekon just joined the party APC but he is not a stranger in the politics of the federal constituency. The recent entrance of Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio and Rt Hon Emmanuel Ekon into the party has given the party life which now offer the people of the federal constituency and Akwa Ibom State the needed synergy to win the forthcoming general elections. Rt. Emmanuel Ekon has given life to the party you once destroyed. Yes! Instead of giving life to the party, you succeeded in destroying it. How can you hand picked your errand boy from your ward as a chapter chairman and picked also a woman leader from the same ward? Is this what you call contribution? Yes! You have actually contributed immensely by disintegrating the bond and the spirit of unity that existed in the party.
HON UWEM UDOMA, THERE IS NO NEED FOR YOU TO CRY FOR CONSENSUS. IF YOU ARE MAN ENOUGH, WE CHALLENGE YOU TO AN OPEN NOMINATION FOR THE PARTY TICKET.
